Javelina Adventures

Do you love the beauty of the Desert? Do you want to learn more about the desert, it's plants, animals, and rich history?   Arizona- Sonora Desert Museum is the place to go.

There is so much to do and see here!  My personal favorite is the animals.   The animals are in their natural habit and there are so many!  You can see them up close and personal all while enjoying the natural beauty of the desert.    On a recent visit- my favorite was the javelina exhibit.   There were a few that were all snuggled together, and then there were a few that were moseying around the exhibit.

What's a javelina?  First- let's pronounce javelina [hah-vuh-lee-nuh] correctly.  A javelina is medium sized animal, similar to a boar.   They have short legs, salt and pepper very coarse coat and a pig like nose.  You'll never see a javelina in a petting zoo- they are not friendly creatures- but they are very fascinating.  (   While you can see them here at the museum depending on where you are in Tucson, sometimes you can spot them else where.  In the early morning- I've caught them running down the middle of my street.   I also have a funny story that happened to a friend.

He and a co worker were working the very late night shift at a local grocery store.  They were outside collecting carts- when they saw a small baby javelina.  They decided to approach it.  (First bad idea of the night.)   Before they knew it,  there were several javelina charging towards them in the parking lot of the grocery store.    Not knowing what to do, and knowing that javelina weren't to be messed with (especially angry mama javelinas), they decided to jump inside of one of the grocery carts!  (Can you imagine being a sitting duck surrounded by a pack of angry javelina!)  Well these javelina decided to stop, right there and just hangout.  All the while they were stuck sitting in two grocery carts!  (I can only imagine what was going on in their heads.)  About 30 minutes, the javelina decided to wander away, giving up.  While he wasn't laughing at the time, we sure do laugh whenever we talk about it now.

Now this is not the norm- Tucson isn't the wild west- javelina are something that you keep your eye out especially in the early mornings or the late nights- but personally in the 20 years I've lived here- I've only seen them outside of the museum a handful of times!

For your up close and personal experience (not to mention safe) I would suggest moseying over to the Arizona Sonora Desert Musuem and checking out the javelina and many other desert animals, and plants.

After seeing the Arizona Desert Musuem you'll be in love with the desert and all that it offers.  No worries the Polston Results Team with Keller Williams Southern Arizona  can help you find the perfect home in the desert, so you can enjoy the beauty everyday!  If you live out of state - we know the best agents all over the country to help you sell or if you live in Tucson and just want to move Call us 520-477-9530!
